Embedding Digital Simulations, Virtual Field Trips, and Streaming Videos into Your Lessons
Prerequisite Knowledge: Teachers will need to have attended day one of the workshop and know how to post to the class wiki. Additionally they will need a basic understanding of how to embed links in a presentation.
Introductory Video:
Objectives:
The science teachers will identify when and how they can use digital simulations, virtual field trips and videos to enhance and improve science instruction.
The Science teachers will develop lessons using digital simulations, virtual fields trips, or streaming videos and post the lessons to their wiki.
Lesson Plan Outline:
The workshop will begin with a Google presentation that has several examples embedded in it. The presenter will involve the participants in the lesson by allowing them to explore the different activities.
The class will be encouraged to discuss where they might see the benefit of using similar activities in their science classes. The class as a whole will be given an example lesson and asked to identify what sort of content might enhance the learning and make it more interactive. They will be asked to share their thoughts on the discussion tab and can view the recent responses here.
The class will explore some of the links and different sites to find appropriate content for the example lesson. The teachers will work in their groups and select a unit from their curriculum to explore. The groups will discuss what content might be useful for this unit, and compile a list of resources they will be able to use when teaching this lesson with their students. They will be asked to add these links to a new page on their wikis entitled "resources"
Finally each teacher will be asked to each pick one lesson from that unit and further develop the lesson by creating a presentation for the lesson and embedding simulations, virtual field trips or streaming videos to the lesson presentation that will engage their students while still getting the material across. Teachers will embed a link to this presentation on their individual wiki pages.
